About NECOM

NECOM was formed to deal with the energy crisis by fixing Eskom and adding new sources of power. This will reduce and eventually end load shedding, ensuring energy security for South Africa. NECOM is removing barriers to new generation capacity and unlocking energy from many different sources, including Eskom, independent power producers, businesses and households. This is a collective national effort to ensure South Africa has enough energy now and for the future.

NECOM’s top five priorities:

  • Make sure Eskom's power stations work more efficiently.

  • Make it easier for the private sector to invest in new energy sources.

  • Fast-track the addition of new power from wind, solar, gas and battery storage.

  • Encourage people to install solar panels on their homes and businesses.

  • Transform the way the energy sector works to ensure we have enough now and in the future.
